“The only writer to whom you should compare yourself is the writer you were yesterday.” ―David Schlosser
Most of us have heard the phrase, “Comparison is the thief of joy!” and it truly is. Comparing yourself to other writers will have you doubting your God-given gifts and talents. Let's be clear: we are all, at times, critical of ourselves. I know I am, but it’s normal. But when you scrutinize yourself against what the next author has done, or is doing, you put limits on yourself.
Every writer is different, with a unique style of writing. That’s what makes reading so amazing. If readers only read books from their FAVORITE author, it would make reading boring. So, write like you. Your art will be appreciated as long as it’s well written and you're being your authentic self.
Work on your craft, perfect your craft. Take pride in your work. Make sure you're creating YOUR best; your readers will respond accordingly.
Now, get to it! I'm looking forward to working with you on your next masterpiece.
